Each chapter reveals new secrets, peeling back layers of Carol\u2019s life and her husband\u2019s hidden world.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Not a spoiler<\/em><\/strong>: There is a scene where Carol discusses a box in her closet. Her box held secrets that were both treasured and dangerous. We all have sacred boxes in our closets and our minds. I remember opening one in my storage unit. I swear it vibrated as I touched it, begging me to open it. I pulled at the crossed flaps and held my breath. A flower-clad Mother\u2019s Day card from a past boyfriend was on top. Without warning, my chest became tight, and tears filled my eyes. That card opened his memory folder, and our time together spilled out. Smiles, images, and warmth, along with my grief that he was no longer alive, all mixed.\u00a0 He had this wonderful, strange ability to melt away. Suddenly, I would look for him, call his name, and he would gently answer, \u201cI\u2019m here\u201d. I asked him about it, and he told me it was a necessary skill he learned growing up in an orphanage.<\/p>\n<p>Do your boxes, actual or hidden in your mind, hold wistful memories? Tell me about one.
